STANDARD 6: Professionalism

Physical Education teacher candidates demonstrate dispositions essential to becoming effective professionals.

I believe I hold myself to a high level of professionalism. While at The College at Brockport I made dean's list every semester and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I was also one of three finalists for the Major of the Year award in 2016. I was nominated for this award because of my character as well as my inherent qualities. I was a member of the PE Majors Club, volunteered for events and fundraisers, maintained an impressive GPA, a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa, presided and presented at professional conferences, earned a mastery level score on the edTPA, and served as a TA for an adventure/challenge college class.

I believe all of these things are impressive, however they are not what makes me stand out from the crowd. On top of all of these personal accomplishments I maintained my career as a manager at UPS while in school, and had a second job as the head valet at a country club. Being able to accomplish what I accomplished on top of working 2 jobs is what I believe sets me apart from the rest.

Furthermore, in my time as a rugby coach we did not have funding from the school, so various fundraisers were necessary in order to operate as a club. Also, permits for fields to play on and organizing buses to travel were our responsibility as coaches where as in other athletic programs the school district handles that type of stuff.  Not only was I professional and worked alongside the parent committee, I was successful as a coach. My team made it to the state championship two years in a row.
