STANDARD 2: Skill Based and Fitness Based Competence

Physical education teacher candidates are physically educated individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate competent movement performance and health enhancing fitness delineated in the NASPE K-12 Standards.

I personally have a large background with various sports, and have played just about every sport out there at some level. In high school I was a three-sport athlete participating in soccer, wrestling, and rugby. I have also competed in D1 Men's Rugby for many years and have played on the Empire State Games Western team since I was 17. I am more than capable of demonstrating the proper form and skills to various sports. I also have experience coaching rugby at the varsity level. I have coached for three years, two of which my team made it to the state championship. I coached soccer at the modified level for one year as well and my team went undefeated on the season. I believe that my personal knowledge and experience allow me to properly teach and demonstrate skills related to health, fitness, as well as sports.
In addition, The College at Brockport prepared me well by requiring a great deal of "performance requirements" which focused on not only individual skillsets but also the pedagogical skills required to teach those skills. While in my undergraduate studies, I completed the following courses;
Educational Dance, Educational Gymnastics, Adventure/Challenge, Multicultural Activities, Track, Softball, Golf, Archery,  Aquatics, Speedball, Handball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Pickleball, Tennis, Badminton. I excelled in each and every one of these courses taken at Brockport as my resume reveals. Lastly, I don't just teach about the benefits of fitness, I live it. I have dedicated myself to fitness and a healthy standard of living by maintaining a strict workout regiment and eating healthy.
